NAME: "The Sensational" Brian Stevens
GENDER: Male
ETHNICITY: White (Non-Hispanic)
HEIGHT: 6'2"
WEIGHT: 234 lbs.
DATE OF BIRTH: 12/31/1982
HOMETOWN: St. Paul, MN
ALIGNMENT: Face
ENTRANCE MUSIC: "Into the Blinding Light" by Thursday
ENTRANCE DESCRIPTION: (The lights in the arena slowly - one by one - die out until there is nothing; just darkness. A buzz falls over the rabid audience that cuts through the unnerving stillness like a knife. Finally - suddenly - the pulsating intro of "Into the Blinding Light" by Thursday hits and the fans go crazy. With every pulse of the song's intro, a series of bright blinding white lights flash in time. Violently, the songs pulsating intro kicks into the hammering of guitars as wind and smoke chaotically collect, swirl and clash on the entrance stage.)
<P>(From the "O" tunnel, we see a figure emerge from the mayhem. It's "The Sensational" Brian Stevens - the most dominant AWA World Champion in the history of the AWA. With the hood on his ring jacket up,, the Punk Rock Phenom finds his way center stage amidst the smoke and wind. The fans go nuts for Stevens; chanting his name in deafening unison. The unzipped ring jacket flaps wildly in the wind as Stevens stands and soaks in the atmosphere between the boisterous, vocal fans and the on-stage calamity.)
<P>(Finally, Stevens throws back the hood on his ring jacket and steps forth from the smoke and wind on the entrance stage. Brian Stevens walks steady and determined towards the ring in a strong, powerful stride. Stevens ignores the fans. He simply reaches the bottom of the ramp and slides into the ring. The flashing lights - almost strobe-like - surround and overtake the ring as Stevens rises up from the mat and to a knee. The Strong Style Legend remains on his knee with his left arm rested low upon his left thigh as he keeps his head lowered, almost in some sort of prayer or ritual.)
<P>(Finally, Stevens pops up off his knee and gets up to his feet as - simultaneously - the lights in the arena return to normal. Brian hits all four sides of the ring, screaming and playing to the fans as - each time - he balances on the center of the middle rope. Brian Stevens finally ends his pandering and finds his corner, removing his ring jacket and patiently waiting for the bell.)
DESCRIPTION: Brian Stevens has a look about him all his own. A look that screams "rock star;" perfectly accentuating his charming model-like good looks. Facially, Stevens strongly resembles Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars fame (they're similar in how they dress, also). As far as the body goes, refer to Brian Pillman circa 1996-97. Stevens has dropped a lot of his fatty body weight - which wasn't much - and added in it's place some definition to his physique during his time away from the AWA.
The body of Stevens isn't the only thing to change since his wrongful firing. "The Sensational One" now sports a much shorter hair cut. His hair - still dyed jet black - has been chopped off and only about a 1/2 inch of his beautiful locks atop his head remains. Unlike the hair; the cold, blue eyes of Stevens haven't changed. The steady, conviction-filled eyes of Stevens remain marred in eyeliner to accentuate his most prominent facial feature - even when he wrestles. His bottom lip remains pierced as well, with a silver hoop worn on the left side of his lip.
RING ATTIRE: For the first time in his career, Brian Stevens is wearing full-length tights. The tights - at first glance - resemble those of AJ Styles, Alex Shelley or even Christian Cage. The design of the tights will remain the same no matter the color scheme - the secondary color of the tights will always ring the top of the waist (about 2 inches in height), serving as the elastic. The name "STEVENS" will appear in the front of the waist in the complementary - or third - color of the tights' color theme. The main color; or primary color, falls directly below the top secondary color waist ring and dominates the rest of the tights. On the right side of the tights, we see a familiar image - the "Bomb Crest" from Stevens' t-shirt. Unlike the shirt, the graphic is tilted slightly with the image going downwards toward the kneecap ever-so-slightly. The other side of the tights - the left side - sports the Stevens "Skull & Crossbones" logo (again - from Stevens' t-shirt on AWA Online). Much like the "Bomb Crest" on the opposing side, the "Skull & Crossbones" has been tilted diagonally - again - downwards going towards the kneecap slightly. However, unlike the opposing side, the "Skull & Crossbones" is accompanied by a non-traditional triangle that peaks into the areas that the "Skull & Crossbones" doesn't explore. The triangle is done in the secondary color and outlined both in and out of the triangle by the complementary color. The remaineder of the center of the triangle (any space left unoccupied by the logo) is filled-in with the primary color. On the seat of the tights, we see an old familiar logo - the "Blood Smear". All logos are outlined with the complementary color and colored/filled with the secondary color. The kneepads are worn on the outside of the tights and match the primary color. The kickpads will also always match the primary color, however - unlike the kneepads - the kickpads will have some color and design associated with them. The name STEVENS is written vertically down the front-center of the pad in the primary color while outlined in both the secondary and complementary color. The center pad itself will remain primary in color, but will be outlined by both the secondary (heavily) and the complementary (lightly). The rest of the kickpad will remain primary. The boots - while barely visible - are black as are the elbow pads Stevens wears on both arms. The fists of Stevens - the Strong Style Legend - are heavily taped in white and covered completely by black MMA-style gloves.
ENTRANCE ATTIRE: Almost the same fabric as his tights, Brian Stevens wears a sleeveless hooded ring jacket (almost a vest, just a lot less gay) to the ring for his matches. The jacket itself has a hood with nothing on it; done in the primary color. Directly below the hood, the secondary color takes over as it covers the shoulders of the jacket and extends down to about the nipple-line. Below the nipple-line, the primary color takes over for the remainder of the jacket. On the front of the jacket on each side near the bottom, the Stevens "Blood Smear" logo appears on both sides. On the back of the jacket, STEVENS appears right above the "Bomb Crest" logo, which overtakes most of the back of the jacket. Just like the tights of Stevens, the ring jacket's logos are all done in the secondary color and outlined with the complementary color.
COLOR SCHEME (primary/secondary/complementary): CLASSIC - Navy / Crimson / Silver
NOTE ABOUT BRIAN STEVENS' IN-RING STYLE: Brian Stevens is an incredibly proud wrestler. Therefore, he cheats very, very infrequently and always has. Stevens prides himself on being the very best and shortcuts aren't something he's interested in. Also, Brian Stevens is very calculating inside the wrestling ring. Brian Stevens isn't going to throw random clothesline. Instead, he'll throw a Stan Hansen-inspired Lariat for a win or near fall. It should also be stressed that Brian Stevens is the most proficient striker in the AWA. When Stevens hits you, he doesn't do it as "filler" ala Ric Flair and his 90 knife edge chops per match. If you need a "filler" strike for Stevens, use the European Uppercut. Otherwise, Stevens will more often than not put you on your ass with a strike. Finally, Brian Stevens is a hybrid wrestler with most of his offense focusing on the head and neck area of his opponents. Brian Stevens has slightly toned down high-flying in the ring, but he still does it as well, if not better, than anyone. Brian Stevens is also a gifted mat-technician as well as a student of submission wrestling, hence his utilization and perfection of the Front Guillotine Choke submission.
TYPE OF WRESTLER: Unique
PRIMARY FINISHER: Front Guillotine Choke
PRIMARY FINISHER DESCRIPTION: Brian Stevens will win all of his matches with the Front Guillotine Choke unless approved otherwise by myself, staff or AWA management - meaning Brian Stevens will choke his opponent into submission through tap out or knockout. This move, once locked on, is rarely (IF EVER) broken.
This move can be done as either an aggressive, on-the-attack, going-for-the-kill type maneuver OR it can be done as a counter and virtually executed out of nowhere - something Brian Stevens prides himself on AND has perfected. The move itself is quite simple; Brian Stevens will wrap his legs around the torso of his opponent, throw his arm over his opponent's neck, clasp his hands together and proceed to choke the life out of his opponent with no remorse.
ALTERNATE FINISHER: North Star Driver
ALTERNATE FINISHER DESCRIPTION: This move has been done by many (Nova's Kryptonite Krunch, Finlay's Celtic Cross, Elix Skipper's Sudden Death, S vs. R's Air Raid Siren) but has been perfected by "The Sensational" Brian Stevens. Stevens will drape a groggy opponent over his right shoulder and trap their head with the same right arm, supporting/controlling the rest of his opponent with the left arm and hand. Brian Stevens will proceed to snap down to a seated position and spike his opponent down to the mat, driving the opponents full body weight on their own head and neck.
ALTERNATE FINISHER: Ace Crusher
ALTERNATE FINISHER DESCRIPTION: Made famous by Johnny Ace and "Diamond" Dallas Page and more commonly known in the US as the Diamond Cutter, Brian Stevens has put the Ace Crusher to use since the beginning of his AWA career and continues to use it to put opponents away. The move can be done from many different positions but Stevens prefers hitting the move as a clothesline counter - blocking the wildly swinging arm with his own, swinging his opponent around and upsetting their natural momentum and then flattening them with the Ace Crusher.
PLEASE NOTE: Brian Stevens - much like any other wrestler - has several key spots he hits in his matches. Below you will find those spots and they should be included in EVERY Brian Stevens match.
KEY SPOT 1: Springboard Busaiku Knee Strike
SPOT DETAIL: From the ring apron, Stevens will springboard into the ring - off of the top rope - and leap with violent force towards his opponent and drives the point of his knee into his opponents face, similar to a front dropkick.
KEY SPOT 2: Spin Kick to Hook Kick
SPOT DETAIL: Typically done as a counter or performer 'out of nowhere', Brian Stevens will swiftly spin his body and side kick his opponent in the guy - doubling the opponent over and down to their knees due to the force of the kick. While in said position on their hands and knees, Brian Stevens will line his opponent up, lifting his leg up over his opponent and letting it hover overhead a second before - like a guillotine - Stevens drops his leg in a swift, precise snap down and connects with the topside of his foot to the back of the opponent's head and neck.
KEY SPOT 3: Tidal Wave
SPOT DETAIL: With his opponent in the corner - perhaps from an Irish whip or just simple circumstance and progression of the match - Stevens will line his opponent up from across the ring in the opposite corner. In one awe-inspiring motion, Stevens leaps high up into the air before he leaps forward and cartwheels center ring before leaping high into the air once again, only this time violently towards his opponent and the Punk Rock Phenom connects with the opponents skull in the corner with a STIFF kick.
KEY SPOT 4: Tope Con Hilo
SPOT DETAIL: With his opponent on the outside of the ring, Stevens will hit the far ropes and explode back towards his opponent. Once Stevens reaches the ropes, he ducks underneath the top rope and leaps through the ropes, rolling/somersaulting through and taking his opponent out with a sick suicide dive. If Stevens collects enough steam, he has the potential to end up in the first couple rows even after he collides with his opponent - but cases of the aforementioned are rare.
KEY SPOT 5: Power Drive Snap Down Legdrop
SPOT DETAIL: Typically performed after a scoop slam or snapmare, Brian Stevenw will explode - very much like The Great Muta - to the ropes and on the rebound, Stevens will snap down with all his weight with a precision-perfect snapdown legdrop.
KEY SPOT 6: Ultimate Knee Strikes
SPOT DETAIL: With the opponent generally lying on their stomach, Stevens will kneel next to his opponent's skull and trap their head with a front facelock. With the facelock hooked, Stevens will begin driving his knees straight into the back of his opponent's head and neck - typically done 4 times in a row. For every time Stevens drops down a knee, he gets up on to his tippy=toes to get the most momentum as possible behind the move before thundering the knee down across the opponent's helplessly trapped skull.

“The Sensational” Brian Stevens was proudly born and raised in the great state of Minnesota. Born in Edina and raised just outside of St. Paul, Brian Stevens was a College All-American at the University of Minnesota in Ice Hockey – graduating with a law degree in 2002. After some soul searching, Stevens pulled out of the 2003 National Hockey League draft to instead focus on his passion – professional wrestling. Brian Stevens trained in a Minneapolis suburb with legendary trainer Eddie Sharkey, taking his early bumps in an unheated garage. Stevens would go on to compete in both the Midwest for the local ASW (All Star Wrestling) promotion, but for Al Craine’s EFW promotion run out of Boston, MA; prominently covering the Northeast.
In 2004, Brian Stevens accepted an invitation from Great Japan Pro Wrestling’s Keiko Ono and Jun Morishima to move to Japan and train in their dojo’s – Stevens graciously accepted. Stevens served on five tours for Great Japan (Spring, Summer, Shiny, Autumn, & Winter). During this time, Brian Stevens began perfecting the state-of-the-art, second-to-none Strong Style Wrestling that he continues to employs to this very day.
Once Jun Morishima and Keiko Ono had their now-legendary falling out at the end of 2004, Brian Stevens was forced to pick a side – his choice became the new upstart promotion, Jun Morishima’s Pro Wrestling JAPAN.
Brian Stevens wasn’t able to stay with Pro Wrestling JAPAN for long as in 2005, Brian Stevens entered into negotiations with the AWA (American Wrestling Alliance) and on February 27th, 2005, Brian Stevens entered the AWA at the Vortex Pay Per View.
Since his arrival in the AWA, Brian Stevens has been given many monikers: “The Sensation,” “The Sensational One,” “The Punk Rock Phenom,” “The Butcher,” and “The Strong Style Legend.” Stevens has earned each of those nicknames and has done so through producing consistent results by winning match after match with little regard to his opponent. Brian Stevens works a stiff striking game infused with an unparalleled high flying attack and submission expertise.
While never bothering with “niche” titles or insignificant titles, Brian Stevens has been tried, tested and true when it comes to winning key matches. In January of 2006, Brian Stevens won his first AWA World Championship by pinning John Williams with his North Star Driver. Weeks later, Brian Stevens retained the AWA World Championship by winning the Hell Bowl Chamber. Brian Stevens would repeat the same feat the following year, beating Snake for the AWA World Championship and retaining in the Spring Break Chamber – a feat no one may ever duplicate. Brian Stevens also became just the second man to walk into CLASSIC a World Champion and leave CLASSIC World Champion – the only other man is Low. In 2007, Brian Stevens was named Wrestler of the Year – joining a very rare and prestigious list of names given the honor including Thereon Spencer, Mr. Jack Happy, Low, The Hangman, & Brian Williams.
During his time in the AWA, Brian Stevens has made quite a few enemies. His career was jumpstarted by a violent war Stevens waged against Saidogai, an established AWA name. Having won the blood feud between himself and Saidogai, Brian Stevens went after a man who would become both his greatest ally AND his greatest nemesis…NHL. Both Brian Stevens and Nathan Hawthorne-Lee were climbing the ladder in the AWA at the same time and their careers clashed in the spring of 2005. Nathan won both of their matches, but Brian Stevens won the battle when he took Nathan out after their Revelations PPV Ladder Match. The result of the attack exposed the world to Nathan’s greatest secret – his split personality – Henry.
With Henry as the dominant NHL personality – now calling himself Nathaniel Henry Lee and adopting a British accent – the duo of Brian Stevens and NHL formed a group that will go on to live in infamy within AWA folklore; Damage, Incorporated. It wasn’t long after the duo formed DI that they would add Onslaught and John Rourke to their fold and run roughshod over the AWA. The tandem of Brian Stevens & NHL immediately established themselves by beating The Hangman & Low in a tag team contest on Shock. In the weeks to follow, DI targeted two other men – C-Rock & “Dark Warrior” Jeff Christianson – arguably the greatest tag team in AWA history; Bad Blood. Brian Stevens and NHL would be the first team ever to beat Bad Blood for the AWA Tag Team Championship. Weeks later, DI would triumph over Bad Blood again to retain their titles, only this time it took place on the biggest stage of the year – CLASSIC 2005 in a Double Dog Collar match.
After Brian Stevens captured his first AWA World Championship, life would throw another curveball his way as Henry would lose control of NHL – Nathan Hawthorne-Lee was back. NHL and Brian Stevens feuded for the better part of 2006, spilling each other’s blood all over the globe. When NHL beat Stevens for the AWA World Title, Stevens got back at NHL by seducing his wife and convincing her to leave her husband. The two traded victories leading into their now-legendary match at CLASSIC 2006, a Dog Collar match, which saw Brian Stevens and NHL throw one another from a 20 foot balcony to the concrete steps below.
Brian Stevens went onto feud with Pro Wrestling JAPAN’s Yoshinari Sugiura following his war with NHL, allowing Stevens to go back to his training ground where he spent his formative years in the sport. The match was billed as a dream match between the two best Strong Style workers in the sport – and the match lived up to the hype and THEN some. In the end, Brian Stevens beat Pro Wrestling JAPAN Intercontinental Honored Crown Heavyweight Champion Yoshinari Sugiura at the Budokan Hall in Tokyo, Japan to become the PWJ IHC Heavyweight Champion as well as briefly reviving the AWA Intercontinental Championship.
In the months that followed, Brian Stevens waged war against his former mentor, The Legendary Low, as well as engaging AC Smith in a battle for respect. However, it was his war at the start of 2007 that saw Brian Stevens finally question his career. Jai Williams – a former stable-mate of Stevens in The Hangman’s Blood Court – jumped Stevens backstage at Shock and – alongside his Faction – smashed in the face of Brian Stevens with the butt-end of a pistol. Stevens would have his revenge, shoving barbed wire down the throat of Jai Williams and proceeding to choke him out with the Front Guillotine Choke…but Stevens was unhappy with the path his career had taken.
In February of 2007, Brian Stevens proclaimed that he wanted a shot at the World Title – a shot that eluded Stevens since for nearly six months. Brian would finally be granted his World Title shot at new World Champion Snake. Prior to the match, Brian Stevens declared that if he couldn’t beat Snake, he’d retire from the sport of professional wrestling. Brian Stevens would fight Snake as if his life depended on it and, in the end, Brian Stevens choked out “The Fanged Entity” to begin his legendary 218 day World Title run – the longest reign in AWA history. Brian Stevens would hold the World Title and was never pinned or submitted for the title. Instead, Travis Gray stripped Stevens of the belt when the AWA went on hiatus.
During his legendary World Title reign, Henry would reappear in Brian Stevens’ life – so would The Legendary Low. The trio joined Onslaught in reforming Damage, Incorporated and, this time, DI ruled the AWA with an iron fist. However, in December, DI crumbled in one single match. Brian Stevens and Low both competed against one another for the vacant AWA World Title in a Triple Threat Match that also featured Evan Heir. Brian Stevens looked poised to regain his championship until Richard O. Dickinson III and Low betrayed Brian Stevens and cheated their way to pin Stevens for the belt – the first time Stevens was pinned since January of that year; nearly a full calendar year.
Brian Stevens was livid. He was betrayed by his mentor and his friend. However, The Legendary Low seemingly had been plotting the betrayal of Stevens for quite some time - that became evident when he shredded Brian Stevens’ contract right in front of Stevens’ face. For the first time since 2005, Brian Stevens was out of the AWA. Worse yet, Brian Stevens was wrongfully terminated from the AWA.
Brian Stevens vanished from the public eye following his exodus from the AWA. He was infuriated, but he was also driven and focused. He wanted one thing – revenge. Brian Stevens took his termination from the AWA as a sign – it was time to reinvent himself. Brian Stevens felt it was time to retrain himself and rededicate himself to his craft to prepare for his return to the squared circle…and for Low. Stevens traveled and trained in his stomping grounds of Japan and trained at BOTH the Pro Wrestling JAPAN and Great Japan dojo’s. Brian Stevens also – for the first time in his career – traveled and trained extensively in Brazil. During this time, Brian Stevens shaved his head to finalize his rebirth.
In April 2008, Brian Stevens re-emerged in the AWA – saving his best friend Onslaught from the oppressive front office run by AWA President & Owner Travis Gray and The Legendary Low. Brian Stevens was back in the AWA and the fans were thrilled. By May 2008, Brian Stevens had blackmailed his way back into the AWA through exposing AWA President Travis Gray; gaining himself a guaranteed World Title shot, an automatic berth in the King of the Kage tournament and a guarantee of having the highest paid contract in the AWA by fifteen percent.
Brian took full advantage of his automatic, guaranteed berth into the King of the Kage tournament on June 29, 2008 in London, England – he won the tournament. Brian Stevens told the world since he signed his AWA contract that he would win the tournament and he did just that, defeating Jason Storm, Jeff Christianson and Terry James to earn the honor. With the title of King of the Kage bestowed upon him, Brian Stevens earned himself the right to walk into the CLASSIC Main Event to face The Legendary Low for the AWA World Championship – his ultimate goal – his chance for revenge.
